How to Use the REDIST Server

The REDIST Server operates in all the Countries listed There are many times when you will see some station sending a Bulletin on Packet Radio something like this:-

Msg# TSLD Dim To @ BBS From Date/Time Title
##### BF #### HELP @ WWW ###### ????/???? Looking for info in China
##### BF   #### CQ      @ EU       ###### ????/???? contacts required in Spain
The REDIST Server is probably one of the most under-used servers available on the Packet Radio Mailboxes, it will work from any Terminal,PMS System or Mailbox.

OK how do we use it?

There are monthly updates from the Worldwide REDIST Server Coordinator addressed to REDBBS @WWW, which is based in Australia.

The List comprises of BBS's in each Country which have the REDIST Server active on their BBS.

an example entry would be like the following:-

BBS : GB7OAR.#16.GBR.EU Wirral (IO83li)
LOCBBS = Wirral
LOCAL = Northwest England
REGION = Northern England
NATION = All Great Britain

BBS is the recieving BBS of the message.

LOCBBS will send the message as a bulletin but it will only be on the recieving BBS ( in this case GB7OAR)

LOCAL is to the Local area surrounding the recieving BBS (in this case All BBS's in the Northwest of England will recieve copies of the bulletin)

REGION is to a larger area surrounding the recieving BBS (in this case all BBS's in the North of England)

NATION is the equivelant of Sending the message as @GBR from within Great Britain.
Note: on some occasions NATION may be a smaller Target Area than REGION, where the REGION is comprised of a group of independent NATIONs

Taking this information, and assuming we wish to make contact with some stations in the Liverpool Area! in the UK, Looking at the REDIST list shows that GB7OAR.#16.GBR.EU is in the appoximate location we are looking for.

but it may not cover the whole of the TARGET Area we require, we can increase the covering area by using the 'LOCAL' Command instead of the LOCBBS Command, this will provide for a Local area coverage.
If you wish to access a much larger coverage area, you can use the REGION Command ( this would be only of use to stations outside the TARGET REGION)
You could increase it to cover the whole of 'GBR' ( which is only of use to stations outside the TARGET NATION ).

by sending an SP (Personal) in the following format will send the bulletin into your required TARGET Area:

SP LOCAL @GB7OAR.#16.GBR.EU
Enter The Title as normal eg. 'CQ Liverpool'
Then enter your message as normal finish with (CTRL-Z or /EX)

You will recieve and (/ACK) from the recieving BBS informing you that your bulletin has been released to your chosen TARGET Area.

There are many BBS Systems around the world which support this feature. Which has been around for many years, it is designed to reduce the amount of unneccessary Bulletin Traffic to Countries, Regions which the content will have no interest or relevance.

REDIST also will provide much faster Bulletin traffic to and from your TARGET Area's, as the initial message is sent as 'Personal' which will take priority over normal Bulletins, When it is released at the Recieving BBS the default Topic_Field is 'ALL' although the Recieving BBS Sysop may have altered their system to another TOPIC Name.
